Why Nigerian Dwarf Goats?

When we first started talking about starting our farm we knew we had to have goats and our Nigerian Dwarfs are a welcomed addition to our farm.  We opted for the Nigerian Dwarf goat for several reasons.  The size of the Nigerian Dwarf and their temperament make them easier to handle and care for over other larger breeds.  The Nigerian Dwarf produces a surprising amount of milk given their size.  The milk from the Nigerian Dwarf has one of the highest butterfat content of any goat breed.  This butterfat results in a richer taste in homemade cheeses and a creamier farmstead soap.

We maintain a closed herd and test yearly for Brucellosis, Johne's, CAE, and CL.

On the farm we breed our goats for kidding to occur in the Spring and Fall.  Our kids are dam raised, meaning they are left with their mothers until weaned.  We handle and play with the kids daily, thus creating a kid that is used to being around people resulting in a more friendly and docile goat.
